Last spring I went to the Louise Bourgeois exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum in DC. Bourgeois is most-known for her oversized metal spiders, which look undeniably cool. Bourgeois's mother was a tapestry weaver and restorer. Bourgeois's spiders represent her own connection to her mother as a weaver and the way that spiders fiercely protect their eggs is a symbol of universal maternal strength.

My favorite piece in the exhibition was this one, titled
Arch of Hysteria.
